I think we’re a lot alike. We shared the spirit of the holidays with loved ones buying all sorts of special gifts hoping to make as many as happy as we can. I would go as far as to say we probably made a few small dreams come true with our generous gifting and giving.
We sometimes get frustrated by things we can’t change like our health, finances, love relationships, what seems like lack of quality control in products and services and of course – useless politicians!
We don’t ask for much in return. As a matter of fact, all I need these days is to find something to feel good about, and I wanted the same for the people I care about – especially during the holiday season.
On the other hand, the holidays can be a downer often leaving us wondering if there is more to life than the hustle and bustle of shopping and more materialistic consumerism.
In spite of it all, I still look for special, unique ways to spread happiness and joy even if it means going out of my way to do so. I look for new experiences with the finer things in life, especially if they are shrouded in a little mystery from the romantic, chivalrous days of lore. I was extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to create such wonderfully special moments almost on a daily basis. Let me tell you how.
I graduated in Land Valuation in Melbourne, Australia and for many years as a Municipal Valuer. In 1974 I purchased land at Gisborne, Victoria, planted a vineyard and established one of Melbourne’s most popular and professional Winery-Restaurants.
As with businesses of that size, it began from nothing and required intensive labour and dedication which over the years drained both my body and soul.
Just how draining became evident in 1989 when I was diagnosed as having cancer. As with most people, my first reaction was one of fear. I not only overcame the fear, but I also overcame the illness as well. These core principles played a fundamental role in my healing:
- Belief: in myself and in something greater than self.
- Trust: that when you are at one with both yourself and your “God” your life has a plan and that when you ask for something it will be done for you.
- Commitment: must be shown and you must be committed to participating in the plan for life to the fullest.
- Self Responsibility: for you must realize it is you who has created the situation that you find yourself in, and that it is you who can pull yourself out of it.
- Discipline: you must not only be committed, but you must follow this commitment with the discipline of following what you know to be right, everyday, all of the time.
Belief, Trust, Commitment, Self Responsibility and Discipline are certainly life affirming and life sustaining principles. They were complimented by a daily regiment of natural alternative therapies.
It was on that journey to wellness that I found a new direction in life – one that took me in the opposite direction from the business world I had known; a direction aimed at helping those with illness and those looking for a more purposeful direction in life.
After I had recovered, I did not set out to create a product or start another business. It was out of my deepest desire to live a healthy, happy, productive life that I discovered how the application of the aforementioned principles and practices could be harnessed to promote self healing, wellness, happiness, even emotional and financial abundance.
Herbal Lore only became a business because the demand on me to share my approach to self wellness and happiness became so great. Frankly, as I consider the plans currently unfolding I chuckle with excitement for the future.
After 30 years of producing premium ports and liqueurs, I enjoy a reputation amongst connoisseurs of fine ports and liqueurs as one of the country’s finest blenders. In fact, my company Mt Aitken Estates had the honour of having their distinctive range of ports and liqueurs presented to Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana on their visit to Australia.
With this experience I developed a unique range of products under the name of Herbal Lore. The release of this outstanding range of liqueurs is certainly a first in Australia, if not the world.
The Herbal Lore range of products is not for everyone…to some they might be unaffordable. To others they offer an extension of love and well-being, because they create a unifying vision of harmony inspired by the wealth of nature’s immeasurable beauty.
